Clinical Standards in Implant Dentistry – What are they?
Speaker: Ulpee Darbar
Date: April 27, 2019
Time: 12:15‐13:15
Room: Speaker room 1
Aims
Implant dentistry is becoming the treatment of choice when it comes to tooth replacement. Although predictability has improved, patient demands are placing challenges for clinicians often leading to clinical treatment that is patient driven and not clinically driven resulting in complaints. Clinical standards and good clinical practice form the framework from which clinicians can safeguard their clinical practice and protect themselves from adverse outcomes with litigation. This lecture will provide the participant with an overview of the clinical standards in implant dentistry and their link into good clinical practice with tips on how to integrate this into day to day care.
Objectives and Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session the participant should understand:
- The meaning of clinical standards in implant dentistry and how they map to good clinical practice
- The meaning of good clinical practice in day to day practice
- How to use clinical standards to drive patient centred decision making instead of patient demand decision making
- The ways in which clinical standards can be used to optimise outcomes
- How clinical standards can reduce the risk of adverse outcomes.
